About Facial Implants
Aging, weight fluctuations, pregnancy, and more can all affect the appearance of the face. Facial implants can help you achieve a youthful, attractive facial appearance and improve your self-esteem. Facial implants are typically made of silicone or MedPor and are placed beneath the skin to add natural-looking volume to your face. Dr. Imola or Dr. Kowalczyk will select the shape, size, and type of implant based on your aesthetic goals. The flexible silicone implants move naturally with your facial expressions and can provide impressive results through permanent volume enhancement.
Facial Implants vs. Dermal Fillers vs. Facial Fat Transfers
- Dermal Fillers: Dermal fillers are injectable formulas that add volume to the skin.
- Facial Fat Transfer: A facial fat transfer is a treatment that adds volume to the skin by using the patient’s own fat as a filler medium. We can perform a facial fat transfer by removing fat from one area of the body, processing and purifying it, and then injecting it into a targeted area. Many patients choose to remove fat from the thighs, arms, and/or abdomen to sculpt areas where they wish to achieve a leaner appearance.
Like facial implants, facial fat transfers and dermal fillers can also improve the symmetry and volume of your face. However, while dermal fillers can create beautiful results, they are more temporary than the other two options. A facial fat transfer often lasts longer, but a facial implant is the longest-lasting option. We can also combine methods, depending on your aesthetic goals.
Ozempic Face
“Ozempic face” is a condition that occurs after medically assisted weight loss and is characterized by droopy skin around the eyes, cheeks, and jaw. It is common after rapid weight changes because patients tend to lose weight more quickly than their skin can bounce back, resulting in droopiness that affects their appearance. Facial implants can address the “Ozempic face” and restore natural-looking volume to your face.
Facial Implant Options
Chin Implants
Chin implants can improve the projection and shape of the chin for a stronger facial profile. Chin implants come in a variety of shapes and sizes to enhance your appearance. Achieving a smoother, more defined jawline and balancing your facial features can help improve your self-esteem, and you can enjoy results for many years to come.
Jaw Implants
Jaw implants can sculpt the jawline by increasing the width of the lower third of the face. A weak jaw can affect the balance of your facial proportions and your self-esteem. With implants, we can define the jawline with an impressive, sharp, angular contour that improves your facial proportions.
Cheek Implants
Volume loss in the cheeks is common with aging, and cheek implants can improve the contours of this area. Cheek implants provide a long-lasting solution to restore youthful fullness and enhance facial symmetry.
Candidates
Any patient looking for lasting improvements in facial symmetry and volume can benefit from facial implants. Candidates for facial implants should be in good overall health and have specific ideas of the areas or symptoms they wish to improve. Those with a weak or small chin, as well as imbalances in their facial proportions, are also highly recommended for facial implants.
Dermal fillers can be a good option for patients who want to avoid the time and expenses of surgery. Since dermal fillers create temporary results, they can also be used to get a better idea of how much volume and lift are achievable before committing to facial implants. Surgical facial implants are better for those who want a longer-lasting solution and can commit time to recovery after their surgery.
Consultation
During your consultation, we will discuss your medical history, medications, and aesthetic goals. We will select the shape and size of the implants based on your underlying anatomy to achieve natural-looking results. We will also provide specific instructions to help you prepare effectively for your treatment.
We can also discuss additional procedures to help you achieve your aesthetic goals and explore combining treatments as necessary. To learn more about our additional treatments, we encourage you to read our blog!
Treatment Process
As an outpatient procedure, facial implant insertion is performed under local anesthesia, general anesthesia, or IV sedation and has a very high success rate. On average, facial implants have a recovery time of several weeks and can offer long-term improvements to your facial harmony and overall appearance. Facial implant procedures can take 2-3 hours, depending on the complexity of your procedure and whether your treatment plan includes other treatments.
During the procedure, your surgeon may also perform facial implant fixation (securing the implant in place) depending on your underlying anatomy and aesthetic goals. (2)
After Your Treatment
Our team will provide post-operative instructions following your facial implant procedure. This important information will include how to care for the treatment area and when you can return to work and other activities. Patients should follow these guidelines closely to optimize their results and recovery. It is normal to experience swelling and sensation changes after your procedure, but these will gradually improve. Many patients typically take a few days off work but then return quickly to light activities. We suggest avoiding strenuous activity and attending follow-up appointments to ensure proper healing.
Results

After receiving facial implants, you can enjoy lasting results and a more balanced appearance. Many patients find that implants help them look younger by providing natural-looking volume. If you experience changes to your appearance over time, we can help you maintain your results with touch-up procedures.
Additional Facial Reshaping Treatments
Rhinoplasty
Rhinoplasty reshapes the nose to improve its appearance and/or functionality. During the treatment, we can reshape the delicate network of bone, cartilage, and skin to alleviate breathing difficulties and improve your appearance.
Otoplasty
Otoplasty is a treatment that reshapes the ears to balance your facial features. Large and/or protruding ears may affect the self-esteem of patients. We offer ear reshaping, ear pinning, ear reductions, and ear reconstruction to offer natural-looking, long-lasting results.
Buccal Fat Removal
Buccal fat removal removes excess facial fat beneath the cheekbones that can affect your facial proportions. Aging can result in droopy facial fat that affects the balance of your facial features. We can remove it to help you achieve a more youthful-looking or lean appearance. Some younger patients are also born with excess facial fat that affects their self-esteem and appearance. Removing it can create a more slender facial profile and improve your quality of life.
