About Cosmetic Injections

Cosmetic injections are non-surgical treatments that typically use either dermal fillers or neuromodulators beneath the skin to achieve a more youthful appearance. Patients can receive these treatments on their own or in combination with other treatments to achieve seamless, profound results that truly reflect inner vitality.

About Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers are gel-like treatments that your nurse injector can use to fill in visible signs of aging, augment certain features, or restore natural-looking volume to thinning or hollowing areas. Dermal fillers contain different ingredients and particle sizes to address several concerns in varying areas of the face or hands. At Colorado Facial Plastic Surgery, we offer fillers that are hyaluronic acid-based, calcium hydroxylapatite-based, and poly-L-lactic acid-based.

  • Hyaluronic Acid (HA): Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance in the body, and it has strong hydrophilic properties. (1) HA-based fillers are the only type of filler that is dissolvable, and with proper injection, you cannot detect this material by appearance or feel. (2)
  • Calcium Hydroxylapatite (CaHA): Calcium Hydroxylapatite is a filler material that can stimulate the natural production of collagen in the targeted area. It can provide longer-lasting effects than other filler materials. (2)
  • Poly-L-Lactic Acid (PLLA): Poly-L-lactic acid is a filler consisting of biocompatible and biodegradable synthetic polymers. (2) This filler stimulates the production of new collagen in the areas of administration, providing gradual improvements in your facial volume, aesthetic appearance, and overall skin quality.

About Neuromodulators

Neuromodulators relax your facial muscles to smooth, soften, and rejuvenate your appearance. These injections are made from the protein botulinum toxin A. Upon injection, they inhibit the acetylcholine transmission. (3) This is the neurotransmitter responsible for the repeated facial muscle contractions that result in creased, wrinkled, or folded skin. By addressing the contractions themselves rather than just the skin’s appearance, you can not only target your pre-existing concerns, but also prevent new ones from forming altogether.

Available Dermal Fillers

JUVÉDERM®

Juvederm is a collection of different HA-based dermal fillers that can refine your appearance by addressing concerns across the midface, nose, mouth, lips, or cheeks. (4) This filler is highly versatile with several applications, from lip augmentation to facial volume restoration. Each Juvederm formula we offer additionally contains lidocaine, which can further enhance your comfort during your injections.

Radiesse®

Radiesse is a dermal filler that suspends CaHA microparticles in a flexible gel formula. Your injection specialist can administer Radiesse to various facial regions or the hands. The formula stimulates collagen production, restores a softer appearance, and reduces visible facial folds and lines. (2)

Restylane®

Restylane is an HA-based dermal filler that can recontour the face to add additional volume and soften visible signs of aging across the face, neck, and hands. Each Restylane formulation uses XpresHAn Technology™, which helps Restylane integrate into your tissues, move fluidly with your expressions, and support the treated areas. (4)

Teoxane RHA®

The Teoxane RHA Collection is a portfolio of resilient hyaluronic acid-based dermal fillers that can fill in lines, wrinkles, and creases around the face. These fillers use a Preserved Network Technology (PNT) process during manufacturing, which slows filler breakdown. (5) This makes them ideal when targeting changes across the lips and cheeks created by your everyday expressions, such as smiling, squinting, or frowning.

Sculptra®

Sculptra is a PLLA filler that can revitalize your appearance by reducing the appearance of deep nasolabial folds, marionette lines, and other severe wrinkles. Sculptra is a biostimulatory filler, which means it triggers the production of new collagen in the treatment area, leading to gradual improvements in your skin’s natural appearance, firmness, and overall health.

Available Neuromodulators

BOTOX®

Botox is an injectable treatment that can help you achieve a more refreshed look by reducing wrinkles and fine lines. Botox will temporarily relax your facial muscles, allowing your skin to smooth itself out. (6)

Dysport®

Dysport is a neuromodulator that reduces the appearance of your glabellar lines, or the frown lines between the eyebrows. Similar to Botox, Dysport reduces the repetitive movements and contractions of your underlying facial muscles, leading to smoother-looking and feeling skin across the targeted area. (6)

XEOMIN®

Xeomin is a wrinkle-relaxing treatment that can effectively address the appearance of wrinkles, creases, and lines around the eyes, forehead, and eyebrows. This treatment is similar to both Botox and Dysport in its action, but it contains no extra accessory proteins. (7) This means that your body is less likely to resist the effects of Xeomin with long-term use. (8)

Personal Consultation

During your personal consultation, one of our expert injectors will meet with you personally to discuss each aspect of your treatment plan. They will discuss our different injectables, the differences between each one, and their benefits and limitations. They will also ask you several questions about your medical history, listen to your aesthetic concerns, and assess your natural anatomy and skin quality.

If you are ready to take the first step toward your transformation, we encourage you to contact us online or call our Englewood office at (303) 839-7980.

Preparation

Once you have scheduled your injection session, you will need to make certain preparations. To help you, your nurse injector will give you a set of instructions that may direct you to:

  • Cease Certain Medications: Unless medically necessary, stop taking medications or supplements containing blood-thinning properties.
  • Protect Your Skin: Avoid unprotected, direct, or excessive sun exposure, and wear the proper sun protection when leaving the house.
  • Avoid Alcohol: Reduce or cease alcohol consumption in the days before your procedure.

Procedure

Our injection specialists perform our cosmetic injections in our office, with each treatment session lasting less than 40 minutes. At the start of your treatment, your injection specialist will cleanse your skin and mark the targeted injection sites. They will then administer either a topical or local anesthetic, although this is not always necessary, depending on your chosen formula.

Your injector will then use a thin needle to administer your cosmetic injection into the various regions of the face. Once the formula is beneath the skin, they may massage the area to ensure a smooth and even distribution. You will then be free to leave.

Recovery

After your cosmetic injections, you can immediately return to most of your daily activities, as cosmetic injections require almost zero downtime. Initially, you can expect to experience some redness, swelling, or soreness around the injection sites. These effects are temporary and will gradually subside on their own, but you may also manage them using a cold compress and non-blood-thinning over-the-counter medications.

Your injection specialist will provide you with more detailed instructions during your personal consultation. If any questions arise, we encourage you to contact our team.

Results

The results of your cosmetic injections will vary depending on several different factors, such as the type of injectable you receive, the corrections you seek, and the targeted treatment area. Generally speaking, you can enjoy smoother skin, accentuated facial contours, and a more youthful-looking appearance—each of which can lead to a greater sense of self-confidence.
