Otoplasty Englewood, CO

Patients of all ages, especially children, may be bothered by ears that stick out or protrude, are asymmetrical or misshapen, or look unnaturally big. Otoplasty (ear reshaping) is a cosmetic treatment that helps redefine the shape, size, and position of the ears to create a more aesthetic appearance. Regardless of the deformity, otoplasty can allow an individual to feel more confident in their appearance while experiencing a boost in self-esteem. If you or your child are worried about the appearance of your ears, we welcome you to schedule a visit.

Before and After Photos

Ideal Candidate

Ear surgery (otoplasty) can be performed at any age; however, it is most commonly performed on young children and is suggested before they begin elementary school. By about 5 – 6 years old, this surgery is safe to be completed on a child. If you are self-conscious about the appearance of your ears because they stick out or are too large, otoplasty can be considered to attain a more aesthetically-appealing look. If you suffer from torn, stretched, or damaged earlobes, you are also a candidate for otoplasty to help repair your ears.

Procedure

The incisions are made behind the ears and the cartilage is reshaped and sutured into a new form. This allows the ear to achieve a better contour and position near the head. The surgery can be performed in office under local anesthesia. The time needed can vary from 2 to 3 hours depending on complexity.

Expectations

Colorado Facial Plastic Surgery will provide post-operative instructions following otoplasty surgery. This important information will include how to care for the treatment area and when you can return to work or other activities. Patients should follow these guidelines closely to ensure proper healing. A headwrap will be used for several weeks to allow the ears to set into position. Swelling and bruising are normal after surgery and can take time to improve. Many patients will take a few days off of work but then return quickly to light activity. We suggest avoiding strenuous activity and attending follow-up appointments to ensure proper healing.

FAQ

Will the results of ear surgery last?

Usually, the ears grow faster than other parts of the face and body, which is the reason why an otoplasty can be performed on younger patients with long-term results. Even as the body and face can change dramatically from age and gravity, the effect on the ears should be minimal.

Do I need to have both ears done or just one?

The most common problems, such as ears that are oversized or stick out, occur in both ears, so both will need to be addressed. During ear surgery, our surgeons will shape both ears — so they are as equal as possible. However, if only one ear needs to be altered, the size and shape will be adjusted to mirror the untreated ear.

What about fixing stretched or torn earlobes?

The popularity of oversized earrings and ear gauges have made earlobe reconstruction a popular surgery. If you’re interested in having earlobe reconstruction, schedule a consultation with our team. We will analyze your ear and then discuss what could be done in order to repair your earlobes.

How much does an otoplasty cost?

The cost of otoplasty varies based on the complexity of the procedure. The surgeon’s fees range from $2,000-5,000 not including anesthesia fees, facility costs, and supplies.
