Otoplasty Case #2110

This is a healthy, 38 year-old female who presented with asymmetric and prominent ears. The top of her right ear was folded over more than desired and the left ear was very noticeable. The recommendation was made for an otoplasty. This involves incisions behind the ear and suture placement to allow the creation of better ear definition and to pull the ear closer to the head. It's critical to remember that the ears should stick out a certain distance from the head (not plastered all the way back). The top of her right ear was addressed and the whole left ear. Her result is natural and she now has the confidence to wear her hair up, revealing her ears.

1. Notice the asymmetry of the ears. The top of the right ear is fold out more. The left ear is very prominent.
2. Notice the lack of definition of the ear folds in the before photo.
3. The before photo shows how prominent the ear is with its the lack of light and shadowing. The after photo demonstrates a defined ear fold, more shadowing, and greater lighting due to positioning closer to the head.
4. Similar to the left ear, the right ear before photo shows less shadowing and definition of the ear folds.
5. In the after photo, the top of the right ear is closer to the head.
